It's okay to realize that life has a mysterious quality to it, it has an element of uncertainty, it's okay to realize that we do need help, that calling out for help is a very generous act because it allows others to help us and it allows us to be helped. Sometimes we're calling out for help. Sometimes we're offering help, and then this hostile world becomes a very different place. ~ Rebecca Solnit
Welcome to The Shiftless Wanderer, the website for Robin Barre Psychotherapy Services. One of the more common perceptions of a person who "wanders" is that he or she is shiftless, without purpose.
However, here at The Shiftless Wanderer I want to highlight and reclaim the importance of wandering, taking one's time, moving slowly, and meandering. We live in a culture that pressures us to "Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!" The unspoken (and sometimes spoken) message is we must be busy to be successful, if we don't know where we are headed or how to get there then something is wrong with us.
The therapy hour is a time to slow down, to be with the Self. During the therapy hour we have time to learn about who we are.
I believe that healing and wholeness come from the sometimes difficult work of just being with ourselves ~ in all of our amazing, wondrous, and shadowy being. Therapy is an especially effective avenue for navigating this work with the therapist as a compassionate witness, facilitator, and guide in the journey.
I offer therapy services for individuals ages 5 and all the way up. I provide consultation services for educators, schools, and service agencies and organizations. I also facilitate a journaling process I call The Ariadne Journal.
